Harry and his Daddy

It’s with a sad heart I share the news of Harry’s father’s passing. He was a good, sweet, kind, giving, caring, Godly man. He will be dearly missed.

Harry G. Robinson, Sr. 93, of Houston, Mississippi, died July 10, 2017 in Fort Smith. He was born February 7, 1924 in West Point, Mississippi to William Alec and Serena Gates Robinson. Harry was a father, mentor, grandpa, veteran, husband, friend to all and a hero to many. Harry was named after his mother’s brother Harry Gates. He was a veteran of the United States Marines and served in WWII and the Korean War. Harry truly loved America and Ole’ Glory. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Mississippi State University and was a retired Accountant. Harry was a member of the Houston Exchange Club where he served as State President of MS District Exchange Club. He served on the Board of Directors for the Prevention of Child Abuse of North MS. Harry received the Golden Deed Award from the Exchange Club in 1980. He was President of Pushmataha Boy Scout Council and received the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver Award and the James E. West Fellow Award. Harry loved the Mississippi State Bulldogs and served as the MSU Alumni Association-President of Chickasaw County. Harry cites being elected Mayor of the City of Houston, MS in 1973 as the most thrilling time of his life. His good reputation of truth, honesty and faithful services won him two terms as Mayor. First and foremost, in Harry’s life, he was a Christian, Gideon, Deacon, ordained at the age of 25 at Siloam Baptist Church, served as a Sunday School Director, Department Director, Brotherhood Director, and faithful servant of First Baptist Church of Houston, MS.
He is survived by his wife, Ila Mae of Houston, MS; one son, Harry Robinson Jr. (Nancy) of Fort Smith; three step-daughters, Rhonda Rogers (Billy) of Pontotoc, MS, Annelyn Edwards of McKinney, TX, and Dyanne Smith Giacomelli of Houston, TX; and his grandchildren who lovingly called him “Big Daddy”, Renee Durham (Scott), Sara Robinson, Amanda Mendenhall (Kevin), Tripp Smith, Collier Smith (Julie), Katie Robinson (Katie), Brooke Edwards, Martin and Ryan Rogers, Kellye Smith Dumas; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harmon A. Robinson and William Clay Robinson
Visitation will be Thursday, July 13, 2017, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Edwards Funeral Home. Funeral will be Friday July 14, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Community Bible Church with burial following at Oak Cemetery Fort Smith, Arkansas. Arrangements are being made for a Memorial Service in Houston, Mississippi.
